Kerala Samajam Frankfurt celebrated Onam with traditional gaiety and a variety of entertainment programmes at Frankfurt- Bonames on 24th August 2002. The celebrations took off with the welcome address by the President of Kerala Samajam Mr. Mathew Koottakara. Consul Mr. P.S. Ramarathnam inaugurated the function by lighting the ‘Nilavilakku’. Mr. George Joseph, President of Indian Sports Verein Frankfurt has done felicitation speech. The cultural programmes started with ‘Thiruvathira’ by 12 artists, combined by old and young generations, under the direction of Gina Odathuparampil, followed by classical and cinematic dances by the young talents of Frankfurt - Renu Agarwal, Naveen and Nadeen Edathiruthikaran, Gina and Soniya Odathuparampil, Reena and Ruby John, Deepu Kappalumakkal, Sujitha Pallivathukkal and the young artists of ‘Sandhikta’. Julie Thevarpadam and John Mathew moderated the programmes. Mr. P.J. Joseph, Former Education Minister was also present at the function as special invitee from Kerala along with Bhavya Lakshmi and Ambili Devi (both Kalathilakam). Grand ‘Onam Sadhya’ was served to around 400 people. Mr. K. Narayana Swamy and team prepared the special tasty Onam food starting from Papadam to Payasam, which gave a pure Malayalee touch.  After the interval, the cultural wing of Kerala Samajam staged the Malayalam Drama ‘Abhisandhi’ written by C.L. Jose. Alice Odathuparampil, Thomas Kalleppally, Antony Thevarpadam, Josekumar Cholemkery, Antony Edathiruthikaran, John Mathew, Xavier Pallivathukkal, Joy Sebastian Puthenparampil gave faces for the characters under the direction of Thomas Kalleppally. Andrews Odathuparampil took control of the background music. Elisabeth John and Gracy Pallivathukkal helped behind the curtain.  This year’s Onam celebrations concluded with the vote of thanks by secretary John Mathew. Manoharan Changanath, Sunny Kannamkulam, Sebastian Mudiyanappurath, Josekumar Cholemkery, George Joseph, Antony Edathiruthikaran, Andrews Odathuparampil, P. Muralidharan, K. Valsalan, Thomas Kulathil, S. Prasad, Jose Thinamparampil, Aleykutty Conjeevaram, Koshy Mathew, Joy Sebastian Puthenparampil, Xavier Pallivathukkal, Antony Thevarpadam volunteered the function.
